CLEAN LABEL
What is a clean food label?
A clean food label describes ingredients in a food item containing the most natural and unprocessed ingredients possible. This means when you buy New Horizon Cuisine products, you can rest assured that we’ve put time and effort into creating the most natural products by using fresh, simple ingredients.
Why are consumers looking for clean food labels?
In a world of highly processed foods, consumers are starting to note what they put in their bodies after many studies have shown the concerns and dangers of preservatives, GMOs, and more. With obesity on the rise in children and adults, it’s time we take a step back and dive deeper into the foods we eat and how we can be better.
Why should you avoid added preservatives?
Studies have shown that added preservatives like nitrates, benzoates, sulfites, sorbates, parabens, formaldehyde, BHT, BHA, and several others can cause serious health concerns. These concerns can range from minor to severe and can be anything from hypersensitivity, allergies, asthma, hyperactivity, neurological damage, and even cancer.
Why should you avoid GMOs?
The short answer would be that they are an unnatural source of food. GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism. This means scientists have altered the genes in an organism’s DNA by either removing or adding strands to speed up the growth, development, or quality of the organism. This seems fine at a glance. However, the genes are then carried over to any human or animal who ingests the GMO. Although there has been no clear indicator of immediate health consequences, we are still unsure about the long-term side effects it could have.
What is MSG, and why should you avoid it?
Monosodium glutamate, commonly referred to as MSG, is a food enhancer derived from L-glutamic acid. While MSG is generally recognized as safe in small amounts, studies have shown that consuming excessive amounts could be harmful to the human body.
Why choose to be Antibiotic and Hormone-free?
At New Horizon Cuisine, we ONLY use meat that has been raised without the use of added antibiotics and hormones. We do this to ensure that every product we serve is the most accurate form of farm-fresh food. When antibiotics and hormones are added when raising the animal, their long-term effects on the human population and environment are still unknown. This is why we are committed to providing products with the highest quality ingredients.
What does USDA Organic mean?
When a product is labeled USDA Organic, it means it has met strict federal guidelines set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). These guidelines ensure that the product is grown, processed, and handled using sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
To be certified organic, products must:
• Be grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers
• Avoid genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
• No use of artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors
• Be produced without most synthetic additives or irradiation
• For organic meat and dairy, animals must be raised with organic feed, have access to the outdoors, and not be given antibiotics or growth hormones
